Solan District came into existence at the time of the reorganisation of the districts of the State on 1st September, 1972. The District was carved out of Solan and Arki tehsils of the then Mahasu district and tehsils of Kandaghat and Nalagarh of the then Shimla District.
Area – 11.624 Sq Km.
Population – 65,000
Density – 298 / sq Km (/ 770 sq m)
Language – Hindi, English, Pahari
The Commissioner, MC Solan is the administrative head of the Corporation. All executive and administrative powers for the purpose of carrying out day to day functions are vested in him. He is appointed by the State Govt. for full time. He is assisted by a Joint Commissioner/AE/JE who is also appointed by the State Govt. In addition the Municipal Corporation, Solan has its own permanent cadre of the officers/employees; some of them are on deputation from State Govt. Deptts. who look after independent branches.
